Choir, Chants & Ceremony - Community Fundraiser

Join us for a unique blended Buddhist experience - Choir, Chants & Ceremony - Community Fundraiser at the Nan Tien Temple to mark International Women’s Day 2026.

What: We begin with Tai Chi, then we practice singing We Shall Be Known by MaMuse, guided by our experienced choir leader. You'll feel the joy of harmonising with others in this uplifting folk music experience. We will practice in the auditorium, with our final performance in the courtyard/on steps to the Main Shrine. Lyrics for the song will be provided on the day and in your confirmation and ticket emails.

Then, enter the tranquil Main Shrine to experience chantingmeditation and a traditional blessing ceremony with the Buddhist nuns, embracing mindfulness and the warmth of community.

Who: Led by Malika Reese, local professional singer, choir leader, Gender equality advocate, and 2025 City of Wollongong Citizen of the Year. Open to everyone, casual singers, experienced choristers, or anyone who loves to sing. No rehearsal required but you can get to know the song.

Why: Sing to GIVE to others, Sing to GAIN your joy. Celebrate IWD to connect with your community, and show your support for women and families through our charity fundraiser for YWCA Australia (#GiveToGain).

Bring your voice, your heart, and a willingness to be part of something uplifting. Experience mindfulness, music, movement and giving back, all in the serene setting of a Buddhist temple.
