"Half a Bowl of Pickled Vegetables, Infinite Gratitude to the Teacher" On the first day of the second month in the lunar month (Friday, 28 February) coinciding with the anniversary of the tonsure of Fo Guang Shan's founding master, Venerable Master Hsing Yun of Nan Tien Temple. The Temple is holding a Buddhist offering ceremony at the Main Shrine at 11:00 AM and will be distributing "half a bowl of pickled vegetable lunchboxes." This lunchbox is not just a sharing of food but also a legacy of the Master's compassion and gratitude.
When the Venerable Master was seventeen years old, he contracted malaria. His teacher, the Most Venerable Zhikai, sent him half a bowl of pickled vegetables, which moved him to tears. He vowed to dedicate his life to Buddhism to repay his master's kindness. When sharing the lunch, it is hoped that the participants would feel the Master's compassionate heart and pass on this sense of gratitude to those around them.
In addition to the Buddhist offering ceremony, at 12.30 pm. Fo Guang Shan, Taiwan will broadcast the inauguration ceremony of the Most Venerable Hsin Bau, Abbot of Fo Guang Shan, to be the 11th Chair of the Fo Guang Shan Board of Directors. It would be a memorable event, witnessing the continuation of the Dharma. Everyone is invited to participate in the ceremony. We hope that with this “Half a Bowl of Pickled Vegetables, Infinite Gratitude to the Teacher", you can learn from the Master's sense of gratitude, integrate compassion and wisdom into your daily life, and bring light and hope to the world.
